What You'll Do


Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an experienced Environmental Principal to join our team. This role ensures that overall goals related to quality and performance are achieved. Responsibilities for any one particular project are limited. The goal is to delegate to senior staff and step in when and where it is most useful. Principals are the problem solvers and the final reviewers for projects. The ideal candidate presents a positive customer service attitude and an understanding of ECS Core Values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively mentor junior staff and support the overall development of the team. Provide mentorship to Associate Principals as assigned.
  • Attend project meetings and provide solutions to technical and administrative issues as necessary.
  • Market our services and maintain and further develop the client database.
  • Oversee project budgets, review change orders and invoices, and assist with collections efforts.
  • Train and oversee subordinate staff members.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and meet project deadlines.
  • Oversee environmental projects, assist junior staff with issue resolution, and train field staff.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of proposals, change orders, and environmental reports from junior staff.
  • Perform deliverable reviews in accordance with ECS Principal review policy.
  • Host or attend project discussions with clients and follow up on reports to address questions.
  • Assist senior staff with staffing decisions.
  • Coordinate with Sr. Project Managers to ensure project setup and implementation procedures are followed.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of wetlands regulations at federal, state, and local levels and their implications on study findings.
  • Supervise subordinate staff regarding work assignments, perform principal oversight, and ensure project completion and proper closeout in line with ECS QA/QC policies.
  • Engage with clients regarding report findings and conclusions.
  • Direct field work through communication with junior staff and perform site visits as needed.
  • Manage and supervise field activities, providing senior expertise when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related fields such as Natural or Environmental Science, Geology, etc.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience; 16+ years can meet education requirements.
  • Licensure as PE, PG, REM, CIH, CHMM, PWS, CSP, LSS, CIE, REPA, or CEM.
  • Previous designation as Principal at ECS or similar from a competitor.

Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of environmental principles, regulations, and test methods.
  • Ability to review and provide feedback on field and lab testing, and conduct training or corrective actions.
  • Strong client management and business development skills.
  • Technical excellence, leadership, and commitment to professional growth.
