The purpose of the role is to drive performance and directly impact pollution reduction, one of the top three deliverables for Thames Water. Our environmental performance is monitored and evaluated by our regulators through measures such as compliance with environmental permits and the severity of pollution incidents, which inform our Environmental Performance Assessment (EPA).

The role aims to create a low-polluting entity with minimal environmental impact. As part of the Environmental Performance team, you will ensure Thames Water adopts a data-led approach to reducing pollution incidents. You will oversee initiatives from feasibility to implementation, embedding and measuring benefits. Accurate reporting from your portfolio will be crucial as it will be used in discussions with our CEO.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation and delivery of the Pollution Incident Reduction Plan and EPA scorecard components.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards, using agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Ensure projects contribute to pollution performance commitments with measurable benefits.
  • Integrate continuous improvement into the portfolio.
  • Steer reporting strategies, driving actions based on root cause data and insights.
  • Work with the Head of Environmental Performance and a team of environmental enthusiasts.
  • Engage with the Environment Agency on strategic pollution issues, providing timely and accurate updates.
  • Support improvements in incident investigations, data capture, and learning.
  • Support customer engagement initiatives related to pollution reduction.
  • Provide stakeholders with data to aid decision-making to reduce pollution incidents.
  • Lead the business through pollution reduction efforts in AMP8, fostering strong relationships.
  • Act as a leader and trusted advisor in pollution reduction, sharing best practices industry-wide.
  • Represent Thames Water externally to stakeholders, including the National Pollution Group.
Candidate Profile
  • Passionate about environmental performance improvement.
  • Proactive, accountable, and service-oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working across organizations, improving processes, and embedding practices.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, including CICS & 16_02.
  • Understanding of waste management and treatment operations.
  • Ability to influence positively at all organizational levels.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Full driving license required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT literacy; IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications are a plus.
Benefits
  • Salary up to £70,000 plus car allowance.
  • 26 days annual leave, increasing to 30, plus bank holidays.
  • Annual bonus and benefits including discounts, cashback, and vouchers.
  • Enhanced maternity and generous paternity leave.
  • Private healthcare and wellbeing benefits.

Join Thames Water to make a difference in water and environmental management, with opportunities for career growth, flexible working, and meaningful impact.
