The Land & Planning Team within Energy Networks secures the land rights and planning consents needed to install and maintain the distribution and transmission network, enabling the business to meet its statutory obligations and business plans.

What you'll be doing

As an Environmental Planner, you will be responsible for managing statutory environmental planning obligations related to major onshore and offshore infrastructure projects. This includes undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and preparing high-quality Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR).

  1. Develop and implement project-specific strategies for the EIA process, ensuring they meet rigorous external standards to secure onshore and offshore consents.
  2. Manage specialist environmental consultants in EIA activities and foster productive relationships with project team members, including financial oversight of consenting costs.
  3. Engage with stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Scottish Government, statutory bodies, communities, and interest groups to secure planning permissions.
  4. Coordinate with business functions and legal teams for strategy development and submissions for public inquiries and hearings. Represent the company on environmental planning matters when necessary, ensuring documentation is completed timely.
  5. Advise on project design to minimize planning delays and facilitate approval.
What you'll bring
  • A degree in planning management or a related environmental discipline, with broad industry experience and knowledge of relevant legislation and policies.
  • Experience managing large commercial planning applications essential for multi-million-pound investments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, capable of presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities with sound judgment.
  • Commercial awareness, IT literacy, customer service, and project management skills.
Minimum Criteria
  • UK Driving License
  • Degree or equivalent in an environmental or planning discipline, with legislative knowledge.
  • Relevant previous experience in a similar environment role.
