The Land & Planning Team within Energy Networks gain the appropriate land rights and planning consents required to install and keep installed the distribution and transmission network in order for the business to deliver its statutory obligations and Business Plans.
What you’ll be doing
As an Environmental Planner you will be responsible for the control and development of statutory environmental planning obligations associated with major on and offshore infrastructure projects, undertaking Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the project management, preparation and submission of high-quality Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR).
Take responsibility for the development and implementation of project specific strategies to be carried into the EIA process, based on particular project details. Ensuring from the outset that strategies decided upon must withstand the most rigorous of external examination in order to secure various onshore and offshore consents.
Control specialist environmental consultants in EIA and develop productive relationships with a variety of project team members, assuming financial responsibility for capital spend associated with consenting works.
Consult with a wide variety of stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Scottish Government, Statutory Bodies, Communities and Interest Group to secure planning consents.
Liaise with appropriate business functions and legal teams to develop strategy and submissions for public inquiry/hearings; manage and liaise with specialist consultants. Where necessary represent the Company on environmental planning matters at such inquiries and hearings. Documentation completed as per need and timescales.
Develop, guide and advise on design of projects in order to minimise significant project risk due to planning delays and achieve planning approval.
What you’ll bring
Educated to degree level in planning management with preferably a broad experience within the industry – including expert knowledge of the Town & Country Planning Act, Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, planning policy, guidance and environmental matters generally.
Experience of and responsibility for the delivery of large commercial planning applications, critical to the fulfilment of multi-million-pound capex commitments.
Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present information effectively to a variety of audiences.
Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges; and the ability to manage competing priorities using sound judgment to determine options and solutions.

Minimum Criteria
UK Driving License
Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an environmental/planning discipline, with legislative knowledge.
Previous experience in a similar relevant environment role is necessary
