Tasks
Reporting to the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) Project directorate and the Senior Environment and Sustainability Manager, the main purpose of the role is to:
- Lead all environmental aspects of STRABAG's work on the HARP Project and the wider business, ensuring compliance with the STRABAG management system, Environment and Sustainability Strategy, and project requirements.
- Ensure full implementation of the ISO 14001 compliant Environmental and Sustainability Management System (ESMS) on the project.
- Build and lead a strong, efficient environmental management team that reflects STRABAG’s team working culture.
- Advise and support the project directorate and management team in environmental and sustainability responsibilities.
- Manage the ESMS and support site activities for ISO 50001 Energy Management System, PAS 2080 Carbon Management System, and ISO 46001 Water Efficiency Management System, including supporting client implementation.
- Manage communication and risk regarding environmental requirements, ensuring awareness and understanding of statutory duties and ESMS among the project team.
- Lead development of project-specific management plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Conduct environmental assurance activities to monitor compliance, including environmental monitoring, sampling, and data analysis.
- Maintain records for compliance and report project-specific information, reviewing trends and implementing improvements.
- Support waste management efforts, including waste segregation, management options, and Duty of Care audits.
- Undertake due diligence on project information, permitting, and consenting, managing external consultants as needed.
- Collaborate with the supply chain and procurement to ensure environmental standards are met, including conducting supplier audits.
- Lead investigations of environmental incidents and support other incident investigations.
- Develop and manage stakeholder relations, attending meetings as requested.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and manage the environmental team, ensuring high-quality work and health and safety standards.
- Participate in wider industry and organizational collaboration, including site visits and sharing best practices.
- Support the Director of Environment & Sustainability in knowledge sharing, bid support, and strategy development.
- Participate in industry working groups and forums.
Qualifications
- Degree qualification or equivalent experience.
- Full membership of a professional institution (e.g., IEMA, IES, CIWEM, CIEEM) with relevant Chartered status.
- Full driving license and willingness to travel.
- Relevant CSCS Card.
- DBS check prior to appointment.
- Significant environmental management experience in construction or similar large infrastructure projects (over 7 years).
Desirable
- Chartered Environmentalist.
- Experience with tunnelling projects.
- Possession of an EUSR water hygiene blue card (can be obtained on role).
