Job summary

South Yorkshire Police in Barnsley is seeking an Enquiry Desk Assistant to deliver high standards of customer service to the public at the enquiry desk. You will handle enquiries promptly and courteously, signpost to services, and manage found/evidential property with accurate record-keeping.

Role requires weekend work, a 37-hour week, and ability to travel between sites. A permanent contract with a generous pension and leave benefits is offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience of dealing with customers face to face in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to keep calm under pressure when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Possess keyboard skills and be competent in the use of computer applications including MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork, effective communication, resilience, and problem solving.
  • Previous clerical / administrative experience.
  • Able to work a shift pattern including weekends, bank holidays and overtime when available and ability to travel to and work at different sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a prompt response to all enquiries received at the enquiry desk, offering guidance and support at all times.
  • Where appropriate, signpost enquirers to other SYP teams, partner services and/or organisations.
  • Accept, record, and securely store items of found and evidential property including cash and firearms handed in by members of the public. Ensure the property database records are accurately maintained and audited, and appropriate steps are taken to ascertain ownership and arrange collection and disposal of property.
  • Create incidents (e.g., Reporting crimes, historic offences, CSODS)
  • Check, Confirm, process and record information in relation to force processes for example, vehicle documentation/seizure, road traffic collisions, bail signers, sex offender registration and crime reports.
  • Maintain and update electronic records/systems.
  • Report persons for minor offences, use of Police Caution.
  • Responsible for security of access through the public foyer area/ car parks including booking in visitors to the site.

Job Description

As an Enquiry Desk Assistant, you will deliver a high standard of customer service to members of the public, dealing will all enquiries, promptly, professionally and courteously.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 3 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
