Job summary

Tudhoe Moor Nursery School in Spennymoor is seeking a confident, enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Early Years Team. The post is temporary until 31 August 2027, full-time, 8.30am–4.30pm (until 5.00pm Wednesdays), term-time with additional pay for holidays and CPD.

Applicants should have at least five years’ nursery setting experience, support pupils with additional needs, and hold a qualifying Early Years credential. DBS check will be enhanced prior to appointment.

Job description

The Head Teacher and Governing Body of Tudhoe Moor Nursery School wish to appoint a confident, enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our Early Years Team. This post is temporary until 31st August 2027.

The position is to work alongside pupils in our three and four year old room. The position is full time working from 8.30am until 4.30pm and until 5.00pm on Wednesdays.

We require a hardworking and dedicated team member to join our team. The successful candidate must have nursery setting experience of at least five years.

The successful candidate will be confident and passionate about working with all pupils as well as being a key worker for a group of children. We are an inclusive school therefore experience of working in Early Years with children who have additional needs is essential. They will have a can-do attitude and willingness to help in other areas of the classroom, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Where our roles are customer facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:

• Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
• Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
• Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
• Individual leave entitlement – 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)

Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:

Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
