Job summary

Trecarrel Residential Care Home in Tywardreath, Cornwall, is seeking an experienced Night Healthcare Assistant (Enhanced) to join our dedicated night team. The role includes night-time personal care, welfare checks, and supporting the Night Coordinator, with enhanced responsibilities such as medication administration (where trained) and mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• Minimum of the Care Certificate
• Previous experience in a care setting
• Experience supporting people with dementia or complex care needs (desirable)
• Kind, calm, patient and empathetic approach
• Confidence to take on extra responsibility and support colleagues
• Medication training and competency or willingness to complete training
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Basic IT skills and confidence using digital care systems
• Reliable and positive approach to night shifts
• Genuine commitment to safe, dignified and person-centred care

Responsibilities

• Providing person-centred personal care, including continence care and repositioning
• Carrying out regular welfare checks and night-time observations
• Responding promptly to call bells
• Providing comfort, reassurance and companionship during the night
• Supporting with medication administration following training and competency sign-off
• Monitoring residents’ health and wellbeing and reporting changes promptly
• Following individual care plans and ensuring care aligns with residents’ needs and preferences
• Supporting the Night Coordinator with the smooth running of the shift
• Providing guidance and support to colleagues as required
• Helping new starters settle in and learn safe practices
• Acting as a positive role model and maintaining high standards of care
• Maintaining a calm, safe and secure night environment
• Escalating concerns and seeking support as needed
