Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Teaching Assistant in Denton to support a secondary school's English department on a long-term basis, starting immediately. You will work with KS3 and KS4 pupils to unpack texts, develop writing confidence, and align with the national English curriculum.

You will deliver targeted literacy interventions, assist with resource adaptation, and model positive classroom behavior to help every pupil stay focused and engaged throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting KS3/KS4 English pupils.
• Strong literacy knowledge, ability to explain texts and writing.
• Experience in secondary school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

You'll be joining a supportive secondary school in Denton that puts pupil wellbeing and community at the centre of everything they do. This is a great opportunity for a dedicated educator with a strong background in literacy to become a familiar face in a secondary school where academic standards and student support go hand in hand.

As a subject-focused Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the English department, helping Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils break down complex texts, build writing confidence, and master the national English curriculum.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils one-to-one and in small groups across KS3 and KS4 English lessons, breaking down texts and grammar tasks into accessible steps.

• Delivering targeted English intervention sessions to close literacy gaps ahead of GCSE examinations.

• Working alongside the classroom English teacher to adapt learning resources and scaffold materials for pupils with additional learning needs.

• Acting as an encouraging Teaching Assistant role model, managing classroom behaviour consistently in line with school policies to maintain focused learning.

• Assisting with the wider routines of the secondary setting in Denton, ensuring every pupil feels supported and engaged.

What we're looking for:

• Demonstrable experience working as a Teaching Assistant or academic mentor within a secondary school setting.

• An English degree, related qualification, or solid familiarity with the secondary English curriculum.

• Confident literacy skills with the ability to explain analytical writing, SPaG, and literature concepts clearly.

• A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent hands-on classroom experience.

• A calm, proactive approach to behaviour management and student engagement.

• Ability to commute reliably to Denton for daily school hours.
