Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support English and Maths in a thriving 11–18 secondary school with sixth form. This full-time, long-term role offers an immediate start and a chance to work within a supportive learning environment focused on student achievement and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will assist in delivering lessons, support learners in small groups, and help build confidence in core subjects while upholding safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with young people is desirable.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Confidence supporting English and Maths.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in English and Maths lessons.
  • Work with small groups and individual pupils to reinforce learning.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Help students develop confidence and independence in core subjects.
  • Provide targeted intervention support where required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
