Job summary

Simply Education Ltd is seeking a Curriculum Manager & Teacher of English for our SEMH Provision in Stoke-on-Trent. You will lead the development, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum while teaching English across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE and Functional Skills pathways.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on teaching, mentoring staff, analysing progress data and ensuring safeguarding and high standards across the provision. Start date September 2026; full-time, permanent.

Qualifications

• Experience leading curriculum development in KS3/KS4.
• Proven ability to teach English to KS3/KS4 including GCSE.
• Experience supporting SEMH/SEN needs.
• Strong leadership, organisational and data analysis skills.

Salary: £33,000-£40,000 (dependent on experience)

We're looking for an exceptional Curriculum Manager & Teacher of English to join our team.

This isn't simply a role for someone who can teach the curriculum. We're looking for someone who can shape it, strengthen it and bring it to life.

You’ll combine strategic curriculum leadership with a hands-on teaching role, inspiring students in English while supporting colleagues to deliver a high-quality, engaging and meaningful curriculum across the provision.

As our Curriculum Manager & Teacher of English, you'll be at the heart of our educational offer.

You’ll lead the development, delivery and evaluation of our curriculum while teaching English across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE and Functional Skills pathways.

One moment you might be inspiring a student to find their voice through English; the next, you'll be working with colleagues to improve curriculum planning, analysing progress data or ensuring our curriculum meets the highest standards.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include:

• Teaching engaging and purposeful English lessons across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE and Functional Skills.
• Leading the development and continuous improvement of a high-quality curriculum across all subjects.
• Supporting and mentoring teaching staff with planning, assessment and effective classroom delivery.
• Monitoring student progress and achievement, analysing data and implementing appropriate interventions.
• Supporting high standards of behaviour and helping colleagues create positive, purposeful learning environments.
• Ensuring the curriculum meets statutory requirements and relevant inspection and quality standards.
• Leading or contributing to Enrichment and Personal Development programmes.
• Supporting staff training and continuing professional development.
• Ensuring safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral care are meaningfully embedded throughout the curriculum.
• Helping our students build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for their next chapter.

Who We’re Looking For

We're looking for someone who can see the bigger picture without losing sight of the individual student.

You might already be a Curriculum Leader, Subject Lead or experienced English teacher ready to take the next step. Most importantly, you'll be someone who is adaptable, resilient and genuinely passionate about making education work for young people who may not have thrived in traditional settings.

Ideally, You’ll Have Experience In:

• Curriculum leadership, curriculum development or subject coordination.
• Teaching English at KS3 and KS4.
• Preparing students for GCSE and/or Functional Skills qualifications.
• Supporting students with SEMH and/or SEN needs.
• Working within an alternative provision, specialist setting or independent school environment.
• Understanding curriculum requirements, quality assurance and educational standards.

You'll also be comfortable using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, alongside school data and management systems.

Hours of Work

• Monday: 8:00am-5:00pm
• Tuesday-Thursday: 8:00am-4:00pm
• Friday: 8:00am-3:00pm

Attendance at provision events and meetings will occasionally be required.

Teaching hours will be agreed in consultation with the Centre Manager.
