Job summary

Babcock — a global engineering and security company — is seeking a Training and Competency Manager at our Walsall site to build and lead a newly created function that develops workforce capability across our vehicle engineering business.

You will design and deliver a long‑term competency and qualifications strategy, identify skills gaps with senior stakeholders, and create a sustainable pipeline to support future growth. Onsite, 37.5 hours/week, with an early finish each Friday.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership and people development capability.
• Experience developing training, competency, or workforce development programmes.
• Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and compliance frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, value, and risk.

Responsibilities

• Develop qualification and competency pathways aligned to operational needs (Levels 1–3) across vehicle electrical, mechanical, coachbuilding and coded welding disciplines.
• Manage vocational qualifications and apprenticeship programmes from enrolment to completion.
• Implement and maintain training systems, learner tracking, and competence assurance processes while managing the training budget.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to identify skills gaps and deliver workforce development initiatives.
• Support apprentices and employees through structured development programmes while ensuring compliance with standards.
