Job summary

The Trafford and Stockport College Group (TSCG) is seeking an experienced Engineering Trainer Assessor to manage a caseload of engineering apprentices, providing workplace support and progress reviews. You will assess competence in the workplace through observation, portfolios and discussions, and coach apprentices to develop relevant skills and behaviours.

You will lead onboarding, collaboration with curriculum teams, and EPA preparation, while promoting health and safety and equality.

Qualifications

• Must hold Level 3+ in engineering.
• Assessor qualification (CAVA, A1 or equivalent) or willing to work towards one.
• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Recent industry experience in machining, mechanical or electrical maintenance.
• Experience in supporting, training or mentoring apprentices.
• Strong understanding of engineering practices, health and safety, and apprenticeship standards.
• Understanding of competency-based assessment and End Point Assessment.
• Excellent coaching and mentoring to motivate learners.
• Outstanding communication and relationship-building with employers and apprentices.
• Highly organised with digital records using electronic systems.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding, and willingness to travel to employer sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of engineering apprentices, providing regular workplace support and progress reviews.
• Conduct formal reviews with apprentices and employers, setting targets and monitoring progress.
• Assess apprentice competence in the workplace through observation, portfolio reviews and discussions.
• Coach and mentor apprentices to develop skills, knowledge and behaviours.
• Support learners to build high-quality evidence portfolios meeting requirements.
• Maintain accurate records using electronic portfolio systems and LMS.
• Build partnerships with employers to align training with business needs.
• Lead apprentice onboarding and induction activities.
• Collaborate with curriculum teams to align workplace learning with off-the-job training.
• Deliver additional training and underpinning knowledge as required.
• Prepare apprentices for End Point Assessment (EPA).
• Contribute to quality assurance, compliance and safeguarding.
