Job summary

Carlsberg Britvic is seeking an Engineering Technician in Beckton on a permanent basis. The role focuses on delivering technical excellence, fault resolution and preventive maintenance across manufacturing equipment, building services and utilities.

It requires a multi-skilled engineering background and strong adherence to HSE standards. You will manage energy and maintenance strategies in partnership with operations, driving continuous improvement and ensuring site scorecard targets are met.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in an engineering, technical or maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
• Multi-skilled engineering background with electrical bias preferred.
• Experience carrying out planned and preventative maintenance activities and understanding HACCP requirements and audits.
• Strong background in KPI-driven production environments, ideally FMCG/beverage.
• Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and safe working practices.
• Experience using permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, isolation and lock-off procedures, and managing contractor activities.
• Hands-on experience maintaining production equipment and supporting operational performance.
• Ability to fault-find and maintain PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with focus on continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and IT literacy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in delivering Engineering department vision and strategic plan; develop a strategy for energy, equipment and maintenance that supports site development.
• Develop world-class engineering solutions and drive a culture of strong performance.
• Work with Operation core teams to improve key business results and develop engineering skills.
• Develop and implement a robust strategy for mechanical, electrical, building services and utilities and control engineering budgets.
• Identify opportunities for improvements to promote continuous improvement in engineering and operations.
• Proactively resolve site engineering services to meet factory requirements and improve energy/environment measures.
• Provide factory-wide support for adherence to policies and health, safety and environment regulations for staff and contractors.
• Collaborate with Central Engineering to plan and support capital projects within cost/quality/time targets.

Working Hours: 42 hours per week, 4 on 4 off rotating days and night shifts (6 am - 6 pm, 6 pm - 6 am).

About the role:

As a Shift Engineer you will be responsible for delivering world class engineering technical excellence in fault resolution, maintenance standards which promotes the delivery of site scorecard measures. Continuous Improvement & best practice delivery of mechanical & electrical standards will be key, as will maintenance of manufacturing equipment, building infrastructure, building services & utilities provision using co-ordinated corrective, preventative & predictive maintenance techniques. Through this you will minimise Equipment Failure Downtime and catastrophic failure impact to site manufacturing capability.

Role Responsibilities:

• Participate in delivering Engineering department vision and strategic plan and to develop and deploy a strategy for energy, equipment and maintenance which supports the progression & development of the site in line with the Britvic Work System (BWS).
• Develop World Class engineering solutions with the team, driving a culture of strong performance, striving to achieve full personal potential and achieve business objectives.
• Work in partnership with the Operation core teams, to improve key business results and to develop engineering skills and knowledge by promoting a professional manufacturing team culture.
• Develop, implement & deliver a robust strategy for mechanical, electrical, building services & utilities provision and control of engineering budgets to deliver the most cost effective results.
• Identify and action opportunities for improvements within the engineering environment to promote a continuous improvement culture within the engineering and operational teams.
• Pro-active resolution of site engineering services to meet factory requirements and drive improvements to all energy/environmental delivery measures.
• Provide and monitor factory wide support systems for the adherence to company policies and statutory regulations for health, safety and environment, for Carlsberg Britvic staff and contractor management.
• Work in partnership with the Central Engineering Department to plan and support all capital engineering projects to ensure successful completion within cost, quality and time targets.

Experience and Key Attributes:

• Proven experience in an engineering, technical or maintenance role within a manufacturing environment. A multi-skilled engineering background with electrical bias is preferred, but not essential.
• Relevant engineering qualifications (Apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND or equivalent).
• Experience carrying out planned and preventative maintenance activities, with an understanding of HACCP requirements and audit processes.
• Strong background working in a KPI-driven production environment, ideally within FMCG, food, beverage or other high-volume manufacturing industries.
• Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and safe working practices.
• Experience using permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, isolation and lock-off procedures, and managing contractor activities.
• Hands-on experience maintaining production equipment and supporting operational performance.
• Ability to fault-find and maintain PLC, HMI and SCADA systems is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
