Job summary

IQE PLC in Cardiff is seeking an Engineering Technician to support maintenance of semiconductor processing reactors and related equipment, focusing on reliability and efficiency through preventative maintenance and repairs.

You will carry out diagnostics, repair activities and maintenance tasks, working with Production, Engineering and Safety teams to improve equipment performance and uphold health, safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • HNC in an engineering discipline is required.
  • Experience in semiconductor/manufacturing or engineering environment is desirable.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions to completion.
  • Commitment to health and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on epitaxial deposition systems and reactor equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, vacuum, pneumatic and process faults.
  • Perform leak testing of vacuum chambers and gas lines.
  • Maintain, repair and refurbish reactor components and assemblies.
  • Follow maintenance processes and complete training and authorisations.
  • Develop understanding of semiconductor equipment, chemicals and safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering and Safety to improve reliability.
  • Contribute to Health & Safety programme and Emergency Response Team.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment history.
  • Undertake other duties to support manufacturing facility.

About the role

Reporting to the Equipment Supervisor this role is required to support the maintenance and upkeep of Semiconductor processing reactors and associated equipment . This role focuses on equipment reliability and efficiency through preventative maintenance and repairs.

Main Responsibilities

The Engineering Technicianwill be required to:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and corrective maintenance on epitaxial deposition systems and associated reactor support equipment, ensuring high levels of equipment availability and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolvemechanical, electrical, vacuum, pneumatic and process equipment faults, minimising downtime and supporting production requirements.
  • Perform equipment integrity checks, includingleak testing of vacuum chambers and pressurised gas lines, in accordance with approved procedures and safety requirements.
  • Maintain, repair and refurbishreactor components and support assemblies, ensuring parts are maintained to the required quality standard and readily available when needed.
  • Follow the equipment maintenance andcompetency management process, completing required training, assessments, maintenance activities and authorisations within agreed timescales.
  • Develop a strong understanding ofsemiconductor equipment, chemicals, gases and safe working practices, ensuring all maintenance activities meet health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
  • Work closely withProduction, Engineering and Safety teams to resolve equipment issues, identify improvement opportunities and improve equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
  • Actively contribute to the site’sHealth & Safety programme and Emergency Response Team (ERT), identifying hazards and providing feedback on opportunities to improve the working environment.
  • Maintain accuratemaintenance records, equipment history and documentation, ensuring work is completed in accordance with procedures and relevant standards.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the effective operation of the manufacturing facility.

  • Experience working in semiconductor, manufacturing, or an engineering environment is desirable
