Job summary

IQE PLC in Newport is seeking a technically skilled engineer to translate customer requirements into finished product that meets defined electrical and optical specifications. This role operates on a shift basis and serves as the main technical focal point outside normal hours.

Key duties include scheduling reactor bays, applying SPC for quality, inspecting data, and authorising product release to customers, with strong emphasis on safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in a scientific or engineering discipline with semiconductor experience.
  • Knowledge of MOCVD/MOVPE processes and characterization hardware.
  • Problem solving and basic SPC/data skills; able to prioritise under pressure.
  • Awareness of legislative requirements related to the process.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling reactor bays to achieve released orders.
  • Using SPC to ensure quality and specification are to highest standard.
  • Ensure that all customer requirements are met in full and on time.
  • To inspect all pertinent production and characterisation data and to subsequently authorise the release of product to the customer.
  • Technical support for issues arising in connection with the operation of the bays
  • Ensure that technical data (internal/external characterisation, customer feedback) is used in an effective manner
  • Provide 1st pass problem solving activities prior to escalation to Senior Engineering Team
  • To prepare & present report on product & production related data (including for customers) as required.
  • To monitor reactor performance and identify solutions to production problems
  • To participate in bay improvement programs
  • Adhering to all internal safety, HR, environmental and quality guidelines & procedures.

About the role

About you
  • Graduate in a scientific or engineering discipline, ideally involving some degree of semiconductor technology experience and or semiconductor process engineering experience.
  • A good understanding of the MOCVD/MOVPE process, characterisation & hardware capabilities, processes & procedures.
  • Problem solving and basic statistical process and data skills. Must be able to prioritise and work well or make decisions under pressure.
  • Must have a good awareness of the legislative requirements surrounding the process.
