We have an opportunity for an Engineering Technical Lead to join our great team on a hybrid basis.
Your Role
We’re looking for an experienced underwriting professional with the knowledge and credibility to shape and deliver portfolio strategy. In this role, You’ will be responsible for leading and shaping the Engineering line of business within UK Specialty Lines. working closely with the Underwriting Performance Director to develop and implement underwriting strategy aligned with RSA’s wider business priorities and governance standards. You’ll also support the ongoing review and development of products in line with FCA product governance requirements, act as a point of referral for high-value or technical underwriting matters, and ensure key performance measures are met across the portfolio.
You’ll be responsible for the overall performance of the portfolio, offering technical input, reviewing higher-value or non-standard cases, and helping to drive sustainable growth. The role involves setting clear underwriting guidelines, monitoring performance, supporting operational delivery, and ensuring compliance across documentation and policy terms. You’ll collaborate with Risk Control, Claims, and Reinsurance teams to build robust risk management approaches and secure appropriate levels of cover, while making the most of external data and insight where relevant.

About You
You will have solid experience in general insurance underwriting. You will be recognised as a developing specialist in your designated lines, with experience underwriting large and high-value risks and programmes. You will have experience of driving profitability through effective risk selection, portfolio oversight, and pricing. You will also bring a growing understanding of underwriting best practice, FCA regulations, business strategy, global operations, and commercial pricing methodologies.
In this role, you will need to have experience managing stakeholders effectively, build good relationships, and demonstrate commercial awareness, along with the ability to take full ownership of delivery. You will be comfortable influencing beyond your immediate team and committed to working within the legal and regulatory framework. Ideally, you will hold a senior licence in your line of business and have experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams to improve overall effectiveness.
