Job summary

Zest is seeking an Engineering Team Leader to head a Maintenance Engineering team in a fast-paced food production site. You will drive reliability, safety and continuous improvement, coordinating maintenance, spares and CMMS processes while coaching your team.

The role reports to the Engineering Manager and requires hands-on leadership with strong communication and decision-making under pressure.

Qualifications

• Previous FMCG or chilled food production experience.
• Mechanical and/or electrical qualification (NVQ3 or equivalent).
• 17th Edition qualification desirable.
• Food production engineering experience.
• Strong communication skills and a natural team player.
• Confident decision-maker and logical thinker; comfortable under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible, versatile, and a keen problem-solver with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Managing daily priorities for the Maintenance Engineering team.
• Working with Operations Shift Managers and Team Leaders to reduce response times and deliver effective repairs.
• Leading root cause analysis and problem-solving to eliminate recurring equipment and process failures.
• Prioritising and delivering planned maintenance to high standards.
• Owning and improving the CMMS, engineering stores and spare parts management.
• Monitoring engineering KPIs and implementing corrective actions to improve performance.
• Coordinating engineering resources and workload across reactive and planned maintenance.
• Leading shutdown activities and providing out-of-hours support as required.
• Managing contractors on site.
• Coaching, developing and supporting the growth of the engineering team.
• Maintaining health & safety, food safety and quality standards.

Location: Northwest London (commutable from Ealing, Brent, Harrow, Watford, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and surrounding areas)

A well-established food production business is looking for an experienced Engineering Team Leader to join their site, leading a team of Maintenance Engineers and playing a key role in keeping production running safely, reliably and efficiently.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead and support a team of Maintenance Engineers, ensuring service levels are maintained across the whole site.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience within an FMCG or chilled food production environment
• A recognised mechanical and/or electrical qualification (NVQ3 or equivalent)
• 17th Edition qualification desirable
• Food production engineering experience
• Strong communication skills and a natural team player
