Job summary

Zest is seeking an Engineering Team Leader in Northwest London to manage a team of Maintenance Engineers and keep production safe, reliable and efficient. You will report to the Engineering Manager and drive reliability, continuous improvement and team performance.

You will lead a hands-on engineering team, oversee safety and quality standards, and shape maintenance strategy while collaborating with operations to cut downtime and improve KPIs.

Location: Northwest London (commutable from Ealing, Brent, Harrow, Watford, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and surrounding areas)

A well-established food production business is looking for an experienced Engineering Team Leader to join their site, leading a team of Maintenance Engineers and playing a key role in keeping production running safely, reliably and efficiently.

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on engineering leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-standards environment and wants to make a genuine impact on team performance, reliability and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead and support a team of Maintenance Engineers, ensuring service levels are maintained across the whole site.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing daily priorities for the Maintenance Engineering team
• Working closely with Operations Shift Managers and Team Leaders to reduce response times and deliver effective repairs
• Leading root cause analysis and problem-solving to eliminate recurring equipment and process failures
• Prioritising and delivering planned maintenance to best-in-class standards
• Owning and improving the CMMS, engineering stores and spare parts management processes
• Monitoring engineering KPIs and implementing corrective actions to improve performance
• Coordinating engineering resources and workload planning across reactive and planned maintenance
• Leading shutdown activities and providing out-of-hours support as required
• Managing contractors on site
• Coaching, developing and supporting the growth of your engineering team
• Maintaining a strong focus on health & safety, food safety and quality standards throughout

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience within an FMCG or chilled food production environment
• A recognised mechanical and/or electrical qualification (NVQ3 or equivalent)
• 17th Edition qualification desirable
• Food production engineering experience
• Strong communication skills and a natural team player
• Confident decision-maker and logical thinker
• Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible, versatile, and a keen problem-solver with strong attention to detail
