Job summary

Winsearch have a requirement for an Engineering Supervisor at our East Lancashire FMCG site. The role leads the engineering function, manages a multi-skilled team and drives performance across maintenance, compliance and improvement activities.

You will oversee planned maintenance, breakdown response, and contractor management, working closely with production to maximise uptime and minimise disruption. The position is permanent, Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30, with a salary up to £55,000 DOE.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in FMCG, food manufacturing or fast paced production environments.
  • Experience leading or supervising engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Confident fault finding and problem solving in live production settings.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, QMS and Health and Safety compliance.
  • Experience managing contractors and external engineering support.
  • Ability to analyse downtime and deliver structured improvement activity.
  • Confident managing budgets, cost control and engineering spend.
  • Strong communicator able to work effectively across production, engineering and management.
  • Hands on leadership style with strong ownership and accountability.
  • Organised, methodical and able to prioritise in a high pressure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop the engineering team to ensure capability, engagement and strong performance
  • Manage the site PPM system with full compliance and timely completion of planned tasks
  • Take ownership of breakdown response and deliver effective root cause solutions
  • Reduce downtime through analysis, problem solving and preventative actions
  • Oversee mechanical and electrical fault finding and assist with hands on repairs when required
  • Manage external contractors for specialist maintenance, servicing and engineering projects
  • Lead commissioning of new machinery, equipment and site improvement projects
  • Contribute to capital investment decisions including machinery selection, installation and upgrades
  • Manage engineering spares strategy ensuring availability while controlling cost and stock levels
  • Ensure all equipment remains safe, compliant and fully fit for purpose
  • Maintain compliance with Health and Safety legislation, GMP, HACCP and QMS requirements
  • Own engineering standards including guarding, risk reduction and audit readiness
  • Manage effluent systems and ensure environmental and regulatory compliance
  • Analyse downtime data and implement structured plans to improve reliability
  • Produce monthly engineering reports covering performance, downtime, spend and improvement activity
  • Manage engineering budgets and ensure spend aligns with site priorities
  • Work closely with production teams to coordinate downtime and minimise operational impact
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and development of engineering personnel including apprentices
  • Represent engineering in daily production meetings and site communications

A well-established FMCG manufacturer operating in a fast paced, high compliance environment. The site maintains strict standards across food safety, engineering reliability and operational performance, with the engineering team playing a key role in keeping production running and supporting continuous improvement.


They are looking for an Engineering Supervisor to lead the engineering function, manage a multi skilled team and drive performance across maintenance, compliance and improvement activity.


The Role

The Engineering Supervisor will oversee the full engineering operation, ensuring machinery, equipment and site services remain safe, compliant and running efficiently.


This is a hands-on leadership role covering planned maintenance, breakdown response, engineering standards, contractor management and improvement projects. You will work closely with production leadership to maximise uptime and minimise disruption.
