Job summary

Northern Trains Limited is seeking a Head of Strategy and Alignment- Engineering to shape the long-term engineering strategy and governance. You will translate complex data into practical plans, lead cross-functional governance, and ensure alignment with broader business priorities across our network.

The role offers significant influence, with responsibilities spanning governance, reporting frameworks and senior stakeholder engagement to drive confident investment and delivery decisions.

Qualifications

• Significant experience operating in a senior strategic, programme, business planning or governance role within a complex organisation.
• Proven ability to translate strategy into practical, deliverable plans.
• Experience leading governance processes and navigating formal decision-making frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret complex information and provide clear recommendations.
• Confidently influencing senior stakeholders, including Directors.

Responsibilities

• Develop and embed a long-term engineering strategy aligned with Northern's priorities.
• Translate complex information into clear plans and priorities.
• Lead engineering's input to the business planning cycle with transparent milestones.
• Establish governance frameworks to support decision-making.
• Act as gatekeeper for proposals through governance forums.
