Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager in London to lead a high‑performance engineering team on a diverse portfolio of UK railway and civil projects. You will drive technical assurance, manage multidisciplinary design inputs, and ensure projects meet programme, budget and safety requirements.

You will supervise engineers and technicians, coordinate with clients and contractors, and implement robust management processes across design, commissioning and handover.

Qualifications

• Experience in a design management role with stakeholder engagement across design, asset owners/operators and subcontractor designers.
• Experience on civil or building projects in the UK with railway interfaces.
• Line manager responsibility for design/technical managers.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to align teams and client expectations.
• Proactive leadership and collaboration within cross‑functional project teams.
• Proficient with MS Office tools for reporting and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Produce and manage the Engineering Management Plan for allocated projects.
• Implement systems to maintain cost‑effective, high‑quality, safe and environmentally responsible design activities.
• Assess and monitor engineer competence and provide direction.
• Apply design controls and ensure contracts reference industry standards.
• Lead design integration reviews and manage schedules/deliverables.
• Coordinate with clients to capture requirements and report progress.
• Review designs, calculations and drawings; support tenders and proposals.
