Job summary

Financial Times is seeking an Engineering Manager for People & Procurement to lead the engineering, operation and evolution of our workforce management and procurement tech stack. You will guide engineers, set clear ownership, and ensure reliability, security and long-term platform health.

You will collaborate with Product, Architecture and stakeholders to translate priorities into sustainable engineering plans, balancing new capabilities with technical debt and lifecycle management.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading engineering teams on critical tech
• Experience with enterprise SaaS ecosystems and integrations
• Ability to balance people leadership with technical direction
• Strong understanding of reliability, security, privacy and observability
• Experience translating business priorities into engineering plans and roadmaps

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering, operation and evolution of People & Procurement tech capabilities
• Lead and develop engineers with clear expectations and career growth
• Establish clear technical ownership across platforms and services
• Ensure platforms are secure, scalable and maintainable
• Maintain visibility of platform health, debt and dependencies
• Translate business priorities into engineering plans and trade‑offs
• Plan resources, identify risks and communicate progress
• Identify opportunities to modernise and simplify the tech estate
• Coordinate with product and architecture on long‑term tech strategy
• Manage vendor relationships while preserving internal ownership
