Job summary

Financial Times is seeking an Engineering Manager – People & Procurement in London to lead the engineering team responsible for the FT’s People and Procurement technology landscape. You will own the engineering, operation and evolution of these capabilities, working with Product, Architecture and Security to balance new features with platform health and technical debt.

You will partner with stakeholders across People & Procurement to translate business priorities into sustainable engineering

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading engineering teams for business-critical technology.
• Strong experience with enterprise SaaS platforms and their ecosystems.
• Experience translating business priorities into engineering plans and roadmaps.
• Understanding of security, privacy, observability and lifecycle management in tech platforms.
• Experience working with vendors, partners or managed services while maintaining internal ownership.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering capabilities for People & Procurement platforms, providing clear technical direction across SaaS, integrations and services.
• Lead, coach and develop engineers with clear expectations and growth opportunities.
• Establish technical ownership across platforms, reduce key-person dependencies and share knowledge.
• Ensure platforms are secure, resilient, scalable and cost-effective over time.
• Maintain visibility of platform health, technical debt and lifecycle risks with stakeholders.
• Translate business priorities into engineering plans in collaboration with Product and Architecture.
• Own planning, resource allocation, dependencies and trade-offs for projects.
• Identify opportunities to simplify and modernise the technology estate while avoiding unnecessary customization.
• Oversee platform upgrades and significant changes with vendor roadmaps and lifecycle considerations.
• Manage data flows and integration points across the FT tech landscape.
