Job description

Engineering Manager - Manufacturing

Are you Senior Maintenance Lead looking to move into an Engineering Manager role where you can take ownership of engineering, maintenance, compliance, contractors, safety and continuous improvement?

We are working with an established organisation that is looking to appoint an Engineering Manager to lead its engineering function and play a key role within the wider site management team.

This is a broad and influential position, combining engineering leadership, maintenance strategy, statutory compliance, contractor management, health & safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.

The Role

Reporting directly into the Factory Manager, you will take responsibility for ensuring the site’s plant, equipment, infrastructure and engineering activities are maintained safely, reliably and efficiently.

You will work closely with senior management and other departments to ensure engineering activity supports operational performance and wider business objectives.

  • Leading and coordinating planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring effective maintenance strategies are in place to maximise plant and equipment reliability.
  • Managing engineering-related budgets, resources and priorities.
  • Ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant quality management requirements.
  • Driving continual improvement across engineering and maintenance processes.
  • Taking responsibility for engineering-related health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Managing statutory inspection and testing programmes across site.
  • Overseeing contractor selection, induction, competence checks and ongoing performance.
  • Managing permit-to-work arrangements for high-risk activities.
  • Ensuring appropriate risk assessments and control measures are implemented.
  • Supporting the safe introduction and commissioning of new or relocated equipment.
  • Ensuring appropriate COSHH and environmental controls are maintained.
  • Investigating engineering-related incidents, issues and customer complaints where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate engineering, inspection, compliance and contractor records.
  • Liaising with internal management and external contractors to ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness and ensuring critical site systems remain compliant and operational.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of the site’s Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
About You

We are looking for an experienced engineering professional who can operate confidently at management level while remaining comfortable getting involved in the detail.

You are likely to have:
  • Previous experience in an Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Lead or similar senior engineering position.
  • Strong experience within a manufacturing, production, process or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing maintenance programmes and engineering resources.
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety and engineering compliance.
  • Experience managing contractors and external engineering providers.
  • Understanding of statutory inspection and testing requirements.
  • Experience with risk assessments, permits to work and COSHH.
  • A structured approach to preventative maintenance and engineering records.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to influence others and drive standards across a site.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment would be highly advantageous, as would exposure to environmental management systems and wider site compliance.
Why Consider the Role?

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of an engineering function within an established operation.

You will have the scope to influence maintenance strategy, improve engineering standards, develop contractor relationships, strengthen compliance and contribute directly to site performance.

If you are ready for a broader Engineering Manager position where your experience can make a visible difference, we would be keen to hear from you.
