Job summary

Stirling Warrington is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Bedford site’s engineering and maintenance function. The role is on-site at Bedford, offering a challenging environment within a high-performing FMCG manufacturing business.

The successful candidate will drive reliability, safety, and continuous improvement, with accountability for CAPEX and budget management as well as KPI-driven performance improvements.

Qualifications

• HND or degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical preferred).
• Experience leading an engineering/maintenance function within manufacturing.
• Proven CAPEX and engineering project delivery experience.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / CI.
• Experience using KPIs to drive performance.
• Hands-on, visible leadership with people development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an engineering team with accountability and continuous improvement.
• Champion Health & Safety and promote a proactive safety culture.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Lead CAPEX projects from planning through to successful implementation.
• Manage budgets, expenditure and engineering stores.
• Collaborate with Production to maximise plant availability.
• Set and monitor engineering KPIs to improve performance.

Engineering Manager – Lead, Develop & Transform

Are you an experienced Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Chief Engineer or Head of Engineering looking for a role where you can make a genuine impact?

We’re working with a high-performing, international FMCG manufacturing business that is looking for an Engineering Manager to take ownership of the engineering and maintenance function at their Bedford site.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing engineering team, creating a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement
• Champion Health & Safety, driving a proactive safety culture with a focus on zero accidents
• Develop and implement a robust planned and preventative maintenance strategy
• Improve plant reliability, equipment availability and reduce unplanned downtime
• Drive Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives across the site
• Develop and manage engineering KPIs, using data to improve reliability, efficiency and operational performance
• Take ownership of engineering and maintenance activities across plant, equipment and facilities
• Lead engineering and CAPEX projects from planning through to successful implementation
• Manage engineering budgets, expenditure and engineering stores
• Ensure compliance with relevant legal, customer, quality and engineering standards
• Work closely with Production and Operations to maximise plant availability and support production targets
• Build strong relationships across the wider business and influence at senior-management level
• Develop engineering capability through training, coaching, succession planning and effective performance management

About You

We’re looking for an established engineering leader who combines strong technical knowledge with a genuine passion for people, reliability and operational improvement.

You’ll ideally have:

• HND or degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical or a related discipline
• Proven experience leading an engineering or maintenance function within a manufacturing environment
• Strong maintenance, reliability and engineering best-practice experience
• Experience managing, coaching and developing engineering teams
• Proven experience delivering CAPEX and engineering projects
• Experience managing engineering budgets and expenditure
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement
• Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety, compliance and engineering standards
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience using KPIs and data to drive engineering and operational performance
• A visible, hands‑on leadership style with the ability to motivate and develop people
