Job summary

NatWest Group is offering an eight-week Engineering internship designed to immerse you in agile teams, real projects, and cutting-edge technologies. You’ll work in scrums on live business initiatives and learn how engineers shape secure, scalable banking solutions.

During the programme you’ll gain hands-on experience, attend daily stand-ups, and see how AI-assisted engineering and data-driven decision making power customer journeys across Retail, Wealth, and Commercial segments.

• Penultimate-year university student pursuing STEM with 2:1 expected.
• Strong communication skills and ability to break down complex problems.
• Curious, logical mindset with passion for emerging technologies including AI.
• Comfort with data, statistics, and experimentation; evidence-based decision making.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in real engineering projects and contribute to scrum teams.

Your internship journey

Our Engineering internship is structured differently to all other internships and is designed to give you a real appreciation of what it means to work for us as an Engineer. The programme emphasises agile ways of working and immerses you in a dynamic and collaborative environment in which you'll get to work in Scrums on real business projects supported by engineering experts.

At the end of the internship, we'll assess you on what you've learned. Complete this successfully and you could be offered a place on our Engineering graduate programme, where you can carry forward the skills you've learnt into the next stage of your career.

Over the course of this eight-week programme, you can look forward to:

• Actively participating and contributing to real engineering projects
• Attending daily stand ups in your scrum project teams to drive real business progress as well as participation in end of sprint demos, retros, and feedback sessions
• Developing your engineering skills and application through agile methodologies, AI-assisted engineering practices and NatWest ways of working
• The opportunity to attend regular business and engineering spotlight so you can understand how our engineers contribute to the broader business and our customers
• Learning about how we operate, and how the contribution of Engineering makes a difference across our business technology functions including Retail, Wealth, Commercial & Institutional and Customer & Operations
• Learning how engineers collaborate with AI tools and emerging agentic technologies to solve complex problems while applying human judgement and critical thinking
• Building an understanding of the products and services we provide for our customers and colleagues
• Attending Engineering specific networking events, social engagements and the opportunity to hear from senior leaders across the bank

Entry requirements

To be eligible for our Engineering internship, you'll need:

• To be in your penultimate year of university
• To be on course to achieving a 2:1 in a STEM subject
• Clear communication skills, and the ability to break down complex problems and explain your ideas
• A curious, logical mindset with a passion for solving problems and exploring emerging technologies, including AI
• Confidence working with data, statistics, and experimentation, and evidence-based decision making
• A flexible attitude, comfortable with change and ambiguity and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technology landscape
• A drive to learn, grow, and make a real impact
