Job summary

NatWest Group is offering an eight-week Engineering internship designed to immerse you in agile ways of working and real business projects. You’ll join Scrum teams, work with engineering experts, and gain hands-on experience in AI-assisted engineering practices while learning how engineers contribute to our broader technology functions.

At the programme’s end, outstanding interns may be considered for the graduate programme.

Qualifications

• Penultimate year of university.
• On track for a 2:1 in a STEM subject.
• Clear communication skills; ability to break down complex problems.
• Curious, logical mindset with a passion for solving problems and emerging tech including AI.
• Confidence working with data, statistics, and experimentation.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in real engineering projects within Scrum teams.
• Attend daily stand-ups and end-of-sprint demos, retros, and feedback sessions.
• Develop engineering skills through agile methodologies and AI-assisted practices.
• Learn how NatWest engineers contribute to broader business areas and customers.
• Build an understanding of NatWest products and services and how engineering makes a difference.

Your internship journey

Our Engineering internship is structured differently to all other internships and is designed to give you a real appreciation of what it means to work for us as an Engineer. The programme emphasises agile ways of working and immerses you in a dynamic and collaborative environment in which you'll get to work in Scrums on real business projects supported by engineering experts.

At the end of the internship, we'll assess you on what you've learned. Complete this successfully and you could be offered a place on our Engineering graduate programme, where you can carry forward the skills you've learnt into the next stage of your career.

Over the course of this eight-week programme, you can look forward to:

• Actively participating and contributing to real engineering projects
• Attending daily stand ups in your scrum project teams to drive real business progress as well as participation in end of sprint demos, retros, and feedback sessions
• Developing your engineering skills and application through agile methodologies, AI-assisted engineering practices and NatWest ways of working
• The opportunity to attend regular business and engineering spotlight so you can understand how our engineers contribute to the broader business and our customers
• Learning about how we operate, and how the contribution of Engineering makes a difference across our business technology functions including Retail, Wealth, Commercial & Institutional and Customer & Operations
• Learning how engineers collaborate with AI tools and emerging agentic technologies to solve complex problems while applying human judgement and critical thinking
• Building an understanding of the products and services we provide for our customers and colleagues
• Attending Engineering specific networking events, social engagements and the opportunity to hear from senior leaders across the bank

Entry requirements

To be eligible for our Engineering internship, you'll need:

• To be in your penultimate year of university
• To be on course to achieving a 2:1 in a STEM subject
• Clear communication skills, and the ability to break down complex problems and explain your ideas
• A curious, logical mindset with a passion for solving problems and exploring emerging technologies, including AI
• Confidence working with data, statistics, and experimentation, and evidence-based decision making
• A flexible attitude, comfortable with change and ambiguity and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technology landscape
• A drive to learn, grow, and make a real impact
