Job summary

Monzo is hiring an Engineering Director, Security to lead a global security engineering function. You will guide an org of 30–50 engineers and leaders to embed a secure-by-design mindset across core platform primitives, aligning with the CISO and CTO on long-term health.

You don’t need a traditional security background; exceptional engineering leadership, platform thinking, and strong technical judgment are valued as you shape a high-performing, inclusive team solving complex security challenges

Qualifications

• Architectural depth to understand and challenge complex engineering decisions.
• Proven track record leading 30–50-person engineering teams in high-growth environments.
• Background as a Senior/Staff Engineer with strong systems knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead secure-by-design mandate across core platform primitives (compute, storage, networking, identity).
• Identify cross-cutting security problems and drive major software engineering improvements.
• Embed a healthy security culture within product development processes.
• Foster an engineering-first culture where security engineers are software engineers.
• Manage and develop a diverse team of engineers and leaders.
• Collaborate on company-wide security standards and roadmaps.
• Advise CISO, CTO, and Product leaders on long-term security health.
