Job summary

Nusku is recruiting an Engineering Technician to join our Bristol site and help turn innovative designs into reliable hardware for our low‑carbon heating systems. You will build, modify and test prototypes, run engineering tests and maintain a safe, organized workshop.

The role balances hands‑on assembly (about 40%), testing (40%) and workshop administration (20%), with close collaboration with design engineers.

Who you are

We are looking for a practical, hands‑on Engineering Technician to build and modify prototype and test units, run engineering tests and help turn our designs into reliable, working hardware.

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys building, fixing, testing and improving things. Most of your time will be split between hands‑on build and modification work and structured testing, with responsibility for keeping the workshop safe, organised and ready to support development.

You might have experience in a workshop, maintenance, HVAC, electrical or mechanical assembly, pipework, fabrication, manufacturing, product testing or a similar hands‑on environment. We are interested in practical ability, careful test work, adaptability, safe working practices, good organisation and a willingness to get stuck in.

Most importantly, you will want your practical skills to contribute to a mission that matters: helping Nusku bring a lower‑carbon heating solution into real homes.

What the job involves

As Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in building and modifying test units and generating reliable test evidence for our engineering team. As a guide, the role is expected to be approximately 40% build and modification, 40% testing and 20% workshop organisation, although the balance will vary with development priorities. Responsibilities include:

• Building, modifying, assembling and repairing prototype and test units across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, pipework and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
• Carrying out practical fault finding, rework and improvement activities on prototypes, test units, rigs and assemblies.
• Creating, maintaining and operating test rigs for engineering trials, product development and validation activity.
• Setting up and running engineering trials and tests, including preparing test units, equipment, instrumentation and sensors.
• Recording test results accurately, noting observations or anomalies and feeding back findings to the engineering team.
• Working closely with design engineers and system owners to plan build and test work around current development priorities.
• Managing the day‑to‑day running of the workshop space, ensuring it is safe, tidy, organised and fit for purpose.
• Maintaining workshop consumables, tools and equipment, including monitoring stock levels and arranging replenishment where required.
• Improving the layout, storage, usability and functionality of the workshop to support efficient build and test activity.
• Ensuring workshop Health & Safety procedures are followed, including the safe use of tools, equipment, materials and test setups, and assisting with equipment inspections, PAT testing or other compliance activities where trained and competent to do so.

This is a workshop‑and test‑based role, working closely with our engineering, manufacturing, procurement and field teams from our Bristol site. The role depends on regular face‑to‑face collaboration, safe access to workshop equipment, prototypes and test rigs, and close involvement with product development, build and test activity.

Some domestic travel may also be required to support suppliers, manufacturing partners, trial sites, installers or field activities.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with strong practical build skills and a careful, methodical approach to testing, ready to apply their skills in a fast‑growing engineering environment.

Must‑haves:

• Hands‑on experience building, modifying, assembling or repairing equipment, test units, prototypes, rigs or assemblies.
• Experience carrying out practical tests or following test procedures, with care in recording results and observations.
• Ability to follow drawings, build instructions, test procedures or guidance from engineers.
• A practical fault‑finding and problem‑solving mindset, with good attention to detail.
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools and general workshop equipment safely.
• A good understanding of workshop Health & Safety and safe working practices.
• Good organisational skills, with pride in keeping a workspace tidy, safe and well‑stocked.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineers and other team members.

Nice‑to‑haves:

• Experience creating, maintaining or operating test rigs.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, development trials or product testing.
• Electrical or HVAC experience.
• Experience with mechanical assemblies, metalwork, pipework, plumbing or heating systems.
• Pipework soldering or brazing experience.
• PAT testing qualification or experience.
• Basic fabrication, wiring, controls, instrumentation or sensor experience.
• Experience in consumer products, HVAC, home appliances, energy systems or connected products.
