Description

Join UK Biobank’s dynamic and growing team as an Engineering and Facilities Manager at our new headquarters in Manchester. You’ll be part of a small, dedicated team responsible for ensuring high-quality and efficient engineering and facilities management across our sites, including Stockport, Manchester, Newcastle, Reading, Bristol, London, and Oxford.

This position involves responsibilities such as supporting the engineering and facilities of UK Biobank’s new Manchester headquarters, managing maintenance, fault diagnosis, and first-line repairs of plant and laboratory systems across locations. You will work closely with the Head of Estates and Technical Services, contribute to technical installations and system improvements, and ensure health & safety regulations are followed.

With frequent travel to various sites, this role offers variety and the chance to work with complex systems, ensuring the smooth operation of key systems and contributing to scientific research.

Ideal Candidate:

• Technical expertise in facilities, electrical, or mechanical engineering with experience managing complex infrastructure, preferably in clinical, hospital, or laboratory environments.
• Experience managing teams, supervising direct reports, and working autonomously to meet deadlines.
• Skills in facilities maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, and adherence to SOPs and health & safety standards.
• Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, with a full UK driving license, and effective workload planning skills.
• Desirable: familiarity with ISO 9001, cryogenic storage, CDM regulations, and complex HVAC systems.
