Job description

Role: Fixed Electrical Test Engineer

Location:

Happy to consider candidates in and around the Southampton or Portsmouth areas. Home based with daily travel to client sites. We aim to minimise travel where possible and offer localised geographical areas.

Salary:

Starting salary of £40,816 plus a company car / £4,250 car allowance and an excellent benefits package.

Role purpose:

To operate independently and as a team member in carrying out high-quality test and inspection examinations of designated Electrical installations, with a clear customer focus and driving optimal service delivery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Operate in line with Bureau Veritas Core Values and Code of Ethics.
  2. Fully utilize all operational systems available, ensuring accurate data entry and reflection.
  3. Retain independent and individual ownership and responsibility for all allocated inspection and technical activities, while acting as a fully integrated member of a national and regional team.
  4. Ensure examinations and testing are completed within set time scales according to the planned schedule.
  5. Formulate, produce, and distribute inspection reports professionally within daily timescales and service standards.
  6. Work in line with Bureau Veritas Health and Safety processes and systems.
  7. Safely carry out electrical safety tests on portable appliances at customer premises in accordance with the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  8. Carry out inspections within authorized standards and record activities as per company methods.
  9. Provide technical and legislative advice relevant to authorities to clients, team members, and external bodies as necessary.
  10. Build and maintain excellent client relationships and ensure customer service standards are met.
  11. Coordinate with Regional Planner to ensure daily plan completion; communicate any changes.
  12. Stay informed of developments in standards and legislation affecting electrical installations and support necessary changes.
  13. Act on behalf of the company, utilizing technical expertise as required.
  14. Identify potential business opportunities and advise relevant business areas.
  15. Work effectively with Area Managers and Regional Directors to meet all regional KPIs.
Experience & Skills Required:
  • Relevant electrical knowledge.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or as a timeserved apprentice holding their 18th edition.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good knowledge of market, industry trends, and legislative changes, including H&S requirements.
Qualifications Required:
  • 18th Edition regulations.
  • City & Guilds Part 1, 2, and 3, or Level 3 City and Guilds 2365 Diploma in electrical installation. (HNC desirable).
  • Preferably City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/5 courses (or equivalent).
  • Current UK driving license.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).
