Job summary

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust seeks an Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering greenways and cycle routes. You will output reliable designs, engage with partners, and help prepare proposals across RIBA stages in a fast-paced environment.

The role is hybrid (2–3 days in the Bristol Hub) with a permanent contract, a base salary of £33,265 per year plus a £1,412 market supplement, and flexible working options including job-share.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Strong AutoCAD experience (including Civil 3D)
  • Good understanding of healthy street design and inclusive design
  • Knowledge of Traffic Signs Manual and Highway Works specifications
  • Health and safety awareness and CDM Regulations understanding
  • Commitment to safeguarding and the safety of people of all ages

Disclosure: DBS is not required for this position as the post holder will be working with school and community groups in the region.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Team: Delivery/ Infrastructure

As an Engineer at Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team which includes designers, engineers, technicians and other specialists. Together, you will deliver projects and programmes that support the Trust’s strategic priorities to create new and improve existing places for people to walk, wheel and cycle.

You will use your recognised technical knowledge, apply practical and creative problem‑solving, and produce reliable technical outputs to deliver a wide variety of complex projects. These can range from developing new greenways from disused railway corridors to conceptual and outline designs for fully segregated urban cycle routes.

ABOUT YOU
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, such as Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Highway Design, or another relevant and clearly demonstrated specialism, with at least two years of experience. OR five years of work experience in a relevant role.
  • Competence in using design software that is appropriate for the role, e.g. AutoCAD suite including Civil 3D and other packages.
  • A working understanding of guidance and good practice in healthy street design, including inclusive design principles and a holistic approach to creating places.
  • A working understanding of Traffic Signs Manual and Specification for Highway Works.
  • A working understanding of health and safety management, including how to apply the CDM Regulations.
  • The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.
