Job summary

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust in Bristol is seeking an Engineer to join the Delivery/Infrastructure team. The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) or job share, with a hybrid setup requiring 2–3 days at the Bristol Hub and the remainder remotely or in offices, a permanent contract and DBS not required due to local safeguarding scope.

You will apply recognised technical knowledge to deliver a wide range of projects, from greenways on disused rail corridors to conceptual cycle routes.

Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Highway Design, or relevant field, with at least two years of experience, OR five years of work experience in a relevant role.
  • Competence in AutoCAD suite including Civil 3D and other packages.
  • A working understanding of healthy street design, including inclusive design principles and a holistic approach to creating places.
  • A working understanding of Traffic Signs Manual and Specification for Highway Works.
  • A working understanding of health and safety management, including how to apply the CDM Regulations.
  • The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.

  • Engage with internal colleagues, external partners, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders during project delivery.
  • Contribute to business development activities by preparing agreed project proposals.

£ 33,265 per annum (pro rata for part time) plus a market supplement of £1,412

Base: Hybrid with 2-3 days a week working from the Bristol Hub

Contract: Permanent

Disclosure: DBS is not required for this position as the post holder will be working with school and community groups in the region.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Team : Delivery/ Infrastructure

As an Engineer at Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, you will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team which includes designers, engineers, technicians and other specialists. Together, you will deliver projects and programmes that support the Trust’s strategic priorities to create new and improve existing places for people to walk, wheel and cycle.

You will use your recognised technical knowledge, apply practical and creative problem‑solving, and produce reliable technical outputs to deliver a wide variety of complex projects. These can range from developing new greenways from disused railway corridors to conceptual and outline designs for fully segregated urban cycle routes.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply.

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, such as Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Highway Design, or another relevant and clearly demonstrated specialism, with at least twoyears of experience. OR five years of work experience in a relevant role.
  • Competence in using design software that is appropriate for the role, e.g. AutoCAD suite including Civil 3D and other packages.
  • A working understanding of guidance and good practice in healthy street design, including inclusive design principles and a holistic approach to creating places.
  • A working understanding of Traffic Signs Manual and Specification for Highway Works.
  • A working understanding of health and safety management, including how to apply the CDM Regulations.
  • The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.
