Job summary

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust is seeking a chartered engineer to deliver a range of cycle infrastructure projects. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to create designs from concept to detail across greenways and urban routes.

The role values practical problem solving, robust outputs and stakeholder engagement, with hybrid working and a meaningful community impact.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil/Traffic/Highway Engineering or related field.
• Experience in relevant roles with insight into highway design and street guidance.
• Familiarity with health and safety management and CDM regulations.

Job description

You will use your recognised technical knowledge, apply practical and creative problem‑solving, and produce reliable technical outputs to deliver a wide variety of complex projects.

• Contract: Permanent
• Location: Hybrid with 2-3 days a week working from the Bristol Hub
• Full-time (37.5 hours per week) or job share available. We welcome conversations about flexible working arrangements and job-share opportunities.
• £33,265 per annum (pro rata for part time). Plus a market supplement of £1412

As an Engineer at Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, you will work as part of a multi ‑ disciplinary team which includes designers, engineers, technicians and other specialists. Together, you will deliver projects and programmes that support the Trust’s strategic priorities to create new and improve existing places for people to walk, wheel and cycle.

You will use your recognised technical knowledge, apply practical and creative problem ‑ solving, and produce reliable technical outputs to deliver a wide variety of complex projects. These can range from developing new greenways from disused railway corridors to conceptual and outline designs for fully segregated urban cycle routes.

What You’ll Be Doing

Use technical expertise to produce accurate and reliable project outputs and deliverables.

Engage with internal colleagues, external partners, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders during project delivery.

Contribute to business development activities by preparing agreed project proposals.

Manage straightforward projects from start to finish through all RIBA stages.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has experience and understanding in the areas listed below. You don’t need to meet every requirement — if you feel you’d be a good fit, we encourage you to apply.

A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, such as Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Highway Design, or another relevant and clearly demonstrated specialism, with at least two years of experience. OR five years of work experience in a relevant role.

Competence in using design software that is appropriate for the role, e.g. AutoCAD suite including Civil 3D and other packages.

A working understanding of guidance and good practice in healthy street design, including inclusive design principles and a holistic approach to creating places.

A working understanding of Traffic Signs Manual and Specification for Highway Works.

A working understanding of health and safety management, including how to apply the CDM Regulations.

The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and adults at risk.
