Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Project Development Engineer to drive pre-construction development for customer connection and network investment projects. You will lead a multidisciplinary team to develop site intents, evaluate investment options, and prepare robust business cases aligned with Network Development plans.

You will manage stakeholder engagement, ensure regulatory submissions are strong, and deliver value-driven solutions while maintaining safety and CDM compliance throughout project

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and HSE standards.
• Proven project management experience across lifecycle stages.
• Understanding of RIIO regulatory mechanisms and regulated revenue.
• Customer-focused with ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
• Experience in contract management and commercial awareness.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and pre-construction delivery of complex network investment and customer connection projects.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to validate requirements and align with objectives.
• Develop, evaluate and cost various technical investment options with cost-benefit analysis.
• Engage with customers and stakeholders to develop best-fit solutions and maintain relationships.
• Prepare regulatory submissions and business cases to secure investment approval.
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage risks, budgets, and schedules during pre-construction.
• Ensure designs comply with CDM and SHESQ standards and manage risks.
• Conduct feasibility studies, FEED activities, and support permitting and delivery readiness.
• Coordinate with delivery, land, consents, and operations for scope, outages and resources.
• Monitor performance and forecast, capturing lessons learned for improvement.
