Job description

The role: Energy Manager

The Energy Manager is responsible for supporting CBRE client accounts and business units in the effective management of energy resources to meet client strategic objectives and targets. Safety is the overriding priority and underpins all activities.

The role provides expert support in identifying, developing, and implementing energy-related initiatives that reduce consumption, improve efficiency, and support client sustainability and Net Zero ambitions. The Energy Manager works closely with the ESG and wider operational teams to build capability, promote energy awareness, and embed best practice across client accounts.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

• Champion the safe delivery of all activities, regardless of discipline, location, or circumstance.
• Maintain a detailed understanding of corporate energy strategy, relevant legislation, statutory obligations, and technical standards affecting client premises and operations.
• Promote, explain, and embed client energy strategies across CBRE operational delivery teams.
• Develop and advise on energy strategies and solutions, progressing concepts into deliverable projects aligned with client objectives and industry best practice.
• Identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions through technical improvements, innovation, and behavioral change programmes.
• Quantify potential energy, carbon (CO₂), and cost savings, and verify performance post-implementation using recognized measurement and verification methodologies, including regression analysis.
• Produce feasibility studies and fully costed business cases for energy efficiency initiatives.
• Support the delivery of energy consultancy services across client accounts, including technical energy audits, ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) related assessments, compliance support, energy reduction strategies and client-facing advisory work.
• Identify and develop a pipeline of energy efficiency and carbon reduction opportunities, turning audit findings and technical recommendations into practical, costed programmes of work.
• Provide technical expertise and advisory support to clients and internal stakeholders on energy compliance, audit outcomes, investment priorities and future regulatory requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the QHSE team to ensure environmental compliance and drive continuous improvement.
• Support client compliance and statutory reporting requirements, including emissions to air and carbon reporting.
• Contribute to wider client sustainability and corporate social responsibility commitments, including Net Zero targets.
• Ensure all activities align with statutory requirements, industry best practice, and CBRE and client quality standards, policies, and procedures.
• Collaborate with Digital & Technology teams and supply chain partners to deploy technology-enabled solutions that improve efficiency and performance.
• Coordinate with operations, surveyors, and project teams to ensure projects deliver optimal energy performance within financial constraints.
• Monitor developments in the energy sector and emerging legislation to ensure clients remain prepared for future regulatory change.
• Actively participate in CBRE technical forums, sharing best practice and identifying opportunities for innovation across CBRE client accounts.
• Attend and contribute to technical, business unit, regional, and management meetings as required.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will be an experienced technical professional with a proven track record of delivering energy reduction solutions across a diverse property portfolio, supported by relevant professional qualifications, who has the following key attributes:

• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements, particularly in relation to energy management.
• Good working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS), control theory, and the principles of IoT and associated technologies.
• In-depth understanding of energy efficiency technologies and techniques across building services.
• Competence in benchmarking, data analysis, and statistical techniques.
• Sound knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting systems, including design, operation, and integration.
• Ability to prepare robust, fully costed energy efficiency proposals and professional reports.
• Experience conducting energy audits, surveys and feasibility studies.
• Experience delivering technical energy audits and/or ESOS assessments across complex, multi-site property portfolios.
• Strong consultancy-style skills, with the ability to assess client needs, produce clear technical recommendations, and present commercially viable energy solutions.
