Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Lead Nurse Endoscopist to head the nurse endoscopy team across Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital. The role requires a strong clinical background in upper and/or lower GI endoscopy and a passion for developing endoscopist practitioners.

You will lead workforce management, education, and quality improvement initiatives, with oversight from the Clinical Lead, Matron and General Manager for endoscopy.

Qualifications

• Experience in endoscopy and gastroenterology with senior practice.
• Proven leadership and staff development abilities.
• Non‑medical prescribing qualification.
• Teaching/training experience and willingness to train others.
• Strong commitment to evidence‑based practice and quality metrics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage nurse endoscopists across two sites with autonomy and accountability.
• Maintain own clinical expertise through training and study leave.
• Provide clinical and operational leadership to deliver excellence in endoscopy, audit and research.
• Collaborate with Clinical Endoscopy Lead and stakeholders on practice and research.
• Coordinate six core GI endoscopy lists per week and backfill lists as needed.
• Liaise with training lists and assess trainees to achieve JAG accreditation.
• Direct line management of the nurse endoscopist team including development and attendance.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews and development plans.
• Oversee workforce governance for nurse endoscopists.
