Job summary

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Decontamination Technician to perform the cleaning, inspection, and preparation of flexible endoscopes and related equipment in line with HTM 01-06 and local policies.

You will operate endoscope washer disinfectors, maintain thorough traceability records, and report faults promptly. The role requires adherence to infection control and safety standards in a busy decontamination unit.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate flexible endoscopes and associated equipment in accordance with HTM 01-06, local policies, and manufacturers' instructions.
• Perform manual cleaning, leak testing, inspection, and preparation of endoscopes prior to and following decontamination.
• Operate Endoscope Washer Disinfectors (EWDs) and drying/storage cabinets safely and effectively.
• Conduct routine checks of drying cabinets and report any faults, alarms, or performance concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintain full traceability records for all endoscopes processed within the decontamination unit.
• Identify, report, and document damaged or faulty endoscopes and equipment.
• Ensure all decontamination processes are completed accurately and within agreed timescales to support clinical activity.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures and safe systems of work.
• Comply with Health and Safety legislation, COSHH regulations, and the Trust's policies and procedures.
• Monitor equipment performance and report faults or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Assist with validation testing, audits, quality assurance activities, and service improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment within the Decontamination Unit.
