Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Decontamination Assistant (Sterile services) based at Bedford Hospital. You will join the Sterile Services Department and Endoscope Decontamination Unit to clean, disinfect and sterilise reusable medical devices to high standards.

The role requires adherence to ISO-aligned policies, training, and teamwork to ensure safe, ready-to-use equipment for clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Excellent English communication, written and verbal.
• Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, sorting and preparing reusable medical devices for cleaning and disinfection.
• Inspecting, re-assembling, function-testing, packaging, sealing and labelling devices.
• Maintaining understanding of sterilisation and disinfection methods and product liability.
• Carrying out quality checks to confirm devices are decontaminated and safe for patient use.
• Report any failures to the Decontamination Services Manager.
