Job summary

Orbit Group in Coventry is recruiting an Empty Homes Analyst on a fixed-term contract until March 2027 to provide specialist financial governance, reporting and commercial controls for the Empty Homes service. You will lead on reconciling contractor payments, accruals and historic disputes while building management reporting using D365, Power Query and Excel to support operational and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Qualified or qualified by experience in Finance, Commercial Management, Business Analysis or equivalent discipline (CIMA/ACCA or equivalent).
• Experience in financial reconciliation, management reporting and commercial governance.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities from data.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Power Query, pivot tables and complex formulas.
• Experience using D365 or equivalent financial management systems.
• Experience designing and improving business processes, controls and governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial administration and governance of Empty Homes financial processes with robust controls.
• Manage reconciliation of contractor payments, accruals, disputed works and records across financial years.
• Review and resolve historic commercial disputes ensuring contractual compliance.
• Develop and maintain management reporting using D365, Power Query and Excel.
• Support delivery of the Empty Homes commercial roadmap and governance improvements.
• Serve as subject matter expert for financial systems and drive best practices.
• Support Operations Lead in managing financial risk related to contractor expenditure.
• Produce analysis and recommendations to aid budgeting and commercial strategy.

The role

Orbit are delighted to be recruiting for an Empty Homes Analyst to join us in this new role on a fixed term contract until the end of March 2027.

In this role, the Empty Homes Analyst will provide specialist commercial, financial and systems support to the Empty Homes service, ensuring robust financial governance, accurate reporting and effective commercial controls. The role will lead on resolving legacy commercial issues, strengthening financial processes, improving data quality and supporting the implementation of commercial governance across Empty Homes ahead of future contract mobilisation and service improvements.

This role is part of Property where you'll help us to lead the way investing and maintaining 46,000 homes.

What you'll achieve

• Lead the commercial administration and governance of Empty Homes financial processes, ensuring robust controls and accurate financial reporting.
• Manage the reconciliation of contractor payments, accruals, disputed works and financial records across multiple financial years.
• Review, investigate and resolve historic commercial disputes, ensuring contractual compliance and accurate financial outcomes.
• Develop and maintain management reporting using D365, Active H, iPC, Power Query, Excel and other reporting tools to support operational and strategic decision making.
• Support delivery of the Empty Homes commercial roadmap, including implementation of new governance arrangements, reporting standards and financial controls.
• Act as the subject matter expert for financial systems, providing specialist advice, driving best practice and constructively challenging existing processes to improve efficiency, governance and financial control.
• Support the Operations Lead in managing financial risk associated with contractor expenditure, disputed accounts and commercial governance.
• Produce analysis and recommendations to support business decisions, budget management and commercial strategy.

What you'll bring

Essential skills

• Qualified or qualified by experience in Finance, Commercial Management, Business Analysis or equivalent discipline.(CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)
• Experience of financial reconciliation, management reporting and commercial governance.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities from financial and operational data.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Power Query, pivot tables and complex formulas.
• Experience using D365 or equivalent financial management systems.
• Experience designing and improving business processes, controls and governance arrangements.
• Experience within social housing, property maintenance or repairs.
• Knowledge of contract management and contractor payment processes.
• Understanding of Schedule of Rates (SOR), payment verification processes and commercial dispute resolution.
• Experience supporting mobilisation or implementation of new systems or contracts.
• Knowledge of audit requirements and internal financial controls.
