Job summary

Herons' Moor Academy in Weston-super-Mare is seeking a Teaching Assistant - Level 1 to join a supportive, inclusive team. The role is fixed term until 31 August 2027 and part-time, 19.5 hours per week during term time plus INSET days.

You will support pupils’ educational, social and personal development under teacher direction and SENCo guidance. You will use strategies to help pupils access the curriculum, manage behaviour, and contribute to a positive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Be committed to supporting the academy's high expectations and helping pupils achieve their full potential.
• Have an understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities and how a Teaching Assistant supports pupils in their learning.
• Be able to engage pupils effectively and positively manage behaviour on a one-to-one or small-group basis.
• Have strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience and active listening.
• Have good planning and organisational skills, particularly when supporting learning activities and preparing resources.
• Be committed to inclusion and creating an environment where every child feels supported, valued and able to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Support the educational, personal and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of teachers and SENCo.
• Use appropriate strategies to help pupils access the curriculum and engage with learning.
• Deliver planned activities and adapt tasks to individual pupil needs and progress.
• Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to pupils' attainment and wellbeing.
