Job summary

Aspire People is recruiting a Learning Mentor for a welcoming primary school in the Birmingham area. The role involves supporting pupils with learning, behaviour, social and emotional needs to build confidence and resilience in the classroom.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support across year groups, work closely with teachers and pastoral teams, monitor progress and wellbeing, and promote positive behaviour and attendance.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in a school, youth work, mentoring or support role.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young people.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils across different year groups.
  • Build positive relationships with children, helping them develop confidence and self-esteem.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Encourage engagement in learning and help pupils overcome barriers to education.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to ensure pupils make progress.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting good behaviour and attendance.
