Job summary

The Mercian Trust is recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our educational community in Walsall. You will support the Personal Learning Centre, deliver targeted learning sessions, and work with staff to meet individual student needs, promoting wellbeing and inclusion.

Ideal candidates will have an HLTA qualification, safeguarding experience and strong behaviour management skills to help students stay engaged and progress academically within a supportive trust environment.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience working at Higher Level Teaching Assistant level.
• Relevant safeguarding training (or willingness to undertake training).
• First Aid qualification desirable.
• Experience of working with secondary-aged students with social, emotional, behavioural or learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Support the day-to-day operation of the Personal Learning Centre (PLC).
• Deliver learning activities and teaching sessions to small groups and individual students.
• Plan and prepare targeted interventions to support student progress.
• Work closely with the PLC Manager and wider school staff to meet individual student needs.
• Build positive relationships with students, families and external agencies. Monitor student engagement, attendance and wellbeing.
• Promote inclusion and help students reintegrate into mainstream school where appropriate.
