Job summary

Bovelle, Reading-based, seeks an Associate Employment Solicitor to join its Employment team. The role focuses on contentious matters for employer clients, with a bias toward tribunal work and a pathway to develop a specialist niche.

You will handle your own contentious caseload, advise on related issues, and work closely with senior colleagues on high-value disputes, with a supportive, value-led culture and hybrid working options.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with 1–6 years' PQE in employment law.
• Genuine contentious employment experience, or a mixed caseload with clear interest in more contentious work.
• Comfortable advising employer clients directly and building a specialist contentious practice.

This opportunity is for an Associate level Employment Solicitor to join a well-regarded Employment team recognised by the Legal 500, known for strategic, honest advice to employer clients ranging from start-ups to household names. You will be based in Reading, and enjoy an exciting employment law caseload, although one biased towards contentious work. If you've had a mixed caseload so far but you're the one who actually enjoys the litigation side, this is a chance to lean into that.

About the Role

You will be:

• Running your own caseload of contentious employment matters, including Employment Tribunal claims, for employer clients
• Advising on a mix of contentious and non-contentious employment issues as part of a broader client relationship
• Working closely with senior colleagues on more complex or high-value disputes
• Building your own technical specialism in contentious work within a team that genuinely has the volume to support it

About You

You will be:

• Qualified solicitor, 1–6 years' PQE, with employment law experience
• Genuine contentious employment experience, or a mixed caseload to date with a clear, demonstrable interest in doing more contentious work
• Comfortable advising employer clients directly
• Keen to develop a real specialism in Employment Tribunal and dispute work
