Job summary

Weightmans LLP in Liverpool seeks a UK qualified lawyer (1–3 years PQE) to join the Employment, Pensions and Immigration team. You will manage a varied caseload across the UK, providing practical HR employment law guidance to major clients, including advice on tribunal matters when required.

This role offers exposure to high-value matters and opportunities to develop advocacy and client management skills in a supportive, collaborative team, with a focus on innovative legal tech and knowledge

Qualifications

  • UK qualified lawyer with 1-3 years post-qualification experience.
  • Excellent legal research and drafting skills.
  • Ability to translate complex issues into practical, actionable advice.
  • Demonstrable interest in legal technology and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied caseload of employment matters and progressing cases efficiently.
  • Providing HR employment law advice to key clients, delivering practical and commercially focused guidance.
  • Assisting other team members with their caseloads and delivering high-quality client service.
  • Drafting correspondence, tribunal responses, bundles, witness statements and reports.
  • Contributing to client-facing materials and legal updates.
  • Supporting business development activities including training and client engagement.
  • Advocacy experience is desirable and candidates will be supported to develop skills.

Job description

To work within the Employment, Pensions and Immigration team advising employers across the UK on all aspects of employment law, supporting a client base that includes many of the UK's largest and most recognisable organisation, often advising on complex and high value matters. This role provides exposure to a broad mix of work, from complex tribunal claims to day-to-day HR advisory support, offering genuine scope to develop your advocacy, technical and client management skills within a supportive and approachable team.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Managing a varied caseload of employment work, with appropriate support and guidance, to gain exposure to a broad range of employment matters and ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and effectively.
  • Providing HR employment law advice to key clients, delivering clear, practical and commercially focused guidance that supports client decision-making.
  • Assisting other members of the team with their caseloads as appropriate, working collaboratively to deliver a high standard of client service.
  • Drafting and preparing a range of documentation including correspondence, emails, tribunal responses, bundles, witness statements and reports.
  • Contributing to the development of articles, legal updates and client-facing materials.
  • Supporting business development initiatives including training delivery, client engagement and networking activities.
  • Advocacy experience is desirable, however candidates with a strong interest in developing their advocacy or public speaking skills will be supported in gaining experience
  • Working in accordance with client and internal service level agreement and Weightmans' values, policies and procedures
  • Contributing to the achievement of individual and team financial and performance targets You will have previous experience and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work.

  • UK qualified lawyer with a 1-3 years' post qualification experience .
  • Excellent legal research and drafting skills.
  • Experience of analysing complex legal and technical issues and translating them into practical, actionable advice and solutions.
  • Demonstrable interest in legal technology and innovation.
  • Strong understanding and awareness of knowledge management tools and resources.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to engage with users to bring concepts to life.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  • Curious and a real willingness to learn and deal with legal and people based issues.
  • Affinity with technology.
