Job summary

VG Charles & Co in Manchester is seeking an Employment Associate or Senior Associate to join an established employment law team. The role offers broad exposure to contentious and advisory matters for a diverse client base, including handling tribunal claims and corporate transactions.

You will manage a varied caseload, develop client relationships, and contribute to business development while supporting junior solicitors and colleagues across practice areas.

Qualifications

• Experience in both contentious and non-contentious employment law.
• Exposure to transactional employment work and corporate support matters.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload and provide clear, commercially focused advice.
• Excellent communication and drafting skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively.
• A client-focused approach and understanding of commercial pressures facing employers and employees.
• The confidence to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Advising on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
• Handling Employment Tribunal claims, including discrimination and whistleblowing.
• Providing advice on disciplinary procedures, grievances, dismissals, redundancies and restructures.
• Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, procedures and other employment documentation.
• Supporting corporate transactions, including TUPE and related employment issues.
• Conducting and advising on workplace investigations.
• Managing your own caseload and delivering practical, commercially sound solutions.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with clients and colleagues across practice areas.
• Supervising junior solicitors, trainees and paralegals where appropriate.
• Contributing to business development and strengthening client relationships.
