Job summary

Quantum Scholars is looking for a patient, flexible SEND Science Tutor to provide ongoing one-to-one Science tuition to a Year 9 boy accessing EOTAS provision in Wokingham. This is an in-person role, 2-3 hours per week, across the full school year, with sessions designed to build confidence and subject knowledge, and progress towards educational goals.

The learner has dyslexia, dyspraxia and ASD, so the tutor should offer a low-pressure, autonomous learning approach, adapt Biology content as

Qualifications

• Strong Science subject knowledge with the ability to support a Year 9 learner.
• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support.
• Understanding of how to adapt learning for learners who may find traditional teaching approaches challenging.
• Patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to provide a low-pressure and supportive learning environment.
• Comfortable giving learners appropriate autonomy and choice within sessions.
• Creative and flexible approach to following a learner's interests to encourage engagement.
• Good organisational skills and ability to provide consistent weekly support.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
• The right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Delivering 2-3 hours of personalised Science tuition per week.
• Supporting a Year 9 student accessing EOTAS provision.
• Providing consistent tuition throughout the full school year.
• Planning engaging and accessible Science sessions tailored to the student's individual needs.
• Using a flexible, low-pressure approach to encourage engagement with learning.
• Giving the student appropriate choices and opportunities for autonomy within sessions.
• Following the student's interests where appropriate to encourage engagement and motivation.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and expectations to support dyslexia, dyspraxia, ASD and demand-avoidant tendencies.
• Monitoring progress and adapting tuition according to the student's needs and interests.
• Providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the student's EOTAS provision.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding procedures.
