Job summary

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking passionate Firefighters (Control) to join the Service Control Centre in Potterne. You will take emergency calls, coordinate fire crews and mobilise resources, providing calm, professional guidance during potentially the worst day of someone’s life.

This permanent role operates on a four-watch pattern averaging 42 hours per week, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

• 4 GCSE passes – English and Maths; or equivalent Level 2 qualification; or higher-level relevant qualification.
• Be a minimum of 17.5 years of age at application; must be 18 at appointment.
• Commitment to shift pattern (4-watch cycle).
• Competent in Microsoft Office and other software; good keyboard skills.

Responsibilities

• Take emergency calls from the public.
• Liaise with police, ambulance and local authorities.
• Provide guidance and support to callers, including distressed callers.
• Work as part of a team to support operational colleagues at incidents.
