Job summary

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Clinical Practice Educator to lead high-quality education across all Emergency Department areas, including adult and paediatric care. You will deliver hands-on support, develop competency frameworks, and drive induction and professional growth within a busy ED.

The role requires a strong teaching background, experience in clinical governance, and the ability to influence across Trust policies.

Qualifications

• Post-qualification experience at band 7 for a minimum of 3 years in an acute Emergency Department.
• Considerable experience in multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in clinical audit and/or using research skills.
• Experience in developing/reviewing standards and policies.
• Change management experience.
• Experience supervising, mentoring and appraising staff.
• Clinical supervision and reflective practice.
• Contributing to development of Trust policies.
• Awareness of future nurse standards and ability to write action plans for learners or staff.
• Evidence of ability to work as a proficient practitioner.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate and deliver high-quality clinical education across all Emergency Department areas for adults and paediatrics.
• Provide hands-on clinical support, identify learning needs and reinforce safe practice in real time.
• Develop, implement and monitor competency frameworks for rapid ED turnover.
• Support induction, preceptorship and ongoing development for new starters and learners.
• Facilitate clinical supervision, assessment and sign-off with skills development and professional growth.
• Collaborate with senior nursing, medical and AHP teams to align education with priorities and guidelines.
• Act as a specialist resource for emergency and trauma care and update policies with emerging evidence.
• Monitor training compliance and evaluate learning outcomes with reports and action plans.
• Promote a positive learning culture, support wellbeing and adaptability in a fast-paced ED.
